Q: Why do You requirer a GFCI Breaker to each spa pack?

  • A:  A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is a crucial safety device designed to protect against electrical shock in various environments, especially with water products, including swim spas. The GFCI constantly monitors the electrical current flowing through a circuit. If it detects a difference in current between the hot (live) and neutral wires, as small as 5 milliamps, it quickly interrupts the circuit to prevent the risk of electrical shock.
  • Here are some common reasons why a GFCI breaker in a swim spa might “pop” or trip:

    1. Ground Fault:  The most common reason is the detection of a ground fault, if there is a leakage of current to ground, indicating a potential electrical issue or water and or moisture  intrusion, the GFCI will trip to protect users from electric shock. Heavy rain periods or snow periods where there is moisture in the air, can sometimes pop the GFCI Breaker. That is normal and when You have those periods, always check Your swim spa daily to make sure it is maintaining temperature. We have had GFCI Breakers do their thing when heavy rain days or snow day occur. If the breaker Constantly Pops, then call us. But if it Pops maybe 1, 2 or 3 times, it may be doing exactly what it was designed for and their might Not be any equipment failure. Monitoring the GFCI Breaker is the key to this.

    2. Equipment Malfunction:  Faulty or malfunctioning electrical components, such as pumps, heaters, ozonators or lights, can cause an imbalance in the electrical current, leading to a ground fault and triggering the GFCI. Sometimes customers cause their own issues by blocking the ozone jets in their swim spa with their toes, feet or fingers. The ozone jet, is a smaller jet,  usually black or white in color @ the size of a quarter, and is never to be blocked, it is Not a massaging jet, like the bigger jets in Your swim spa. Customer who don’t balance their water regularly, can sometimes burn out the heater faster from PH being off, minerals in their water or calcium. It’s simple to balance Your water and only usually take 3 – 4 minutes to do this. Ask us about our simple system! If a GFCI Pops 1, 2 or 3 time, it might Not be anything more than heavy moisture in the air. Overfilling Your swim spa can also cause moisture to be detected. Monitor the GFCI issue and call us.

    3. Water Intrusion:  If water enters the electrical components or wiring, it can create a path for electricity to flow to ground. This water intrusion can be due to damaged pumps seal and gaskets, or wear and tear from improper balance of water chemistry. Improper balancing of your water chemistry, specifically PH, can hinder Your seals, to leak slowly, burn out the heater, and gaskets to be short lived sooner than normal. Balance Your water is simply and You need to create a weekly habit 2 to 3 times a week, for @ 4 minutes each time to check Your Ph Levels. Improper balanced of Your water can cause heater failure or pump seals quicker. So Take only 15 minutes a week, and do a good job on Your water. We have developed a simply solution to this! Ask us about this also!

    4. Overloaded Circuit:  Excessive use of electrical devices or overloading the circuit can lead to increased current flow. While GFCIs primarily detect ground faults, an overloaded circuit can still cause them to trip. Again, monitor the GFCI and let us help you!

Q: Prevent AIR LOCK while filling up My Swim Spa?     (Do this first before filling up Your swim spa)

      A. Hey there, Spa Enthusiast!

Before filling Your swim spa for the first time, make sure Your Breaker is OFF. Never have the breaker on when No water is in your swim spa! Perhaps You’ve just filled up your swim spa with excitement, before You read through this, and now You notice that the water isn’t flowing as it should, don’t worry, it’s might be a common hiccup called an air lock. It’s especially likely when you’re filling up your spa for the first time or giving it some routine maintenance after You drained it and are refilling it again.  There is something You need to know BEFORE You start filling Up your swim spa.

So, what’s an air lock? It’s when air gets locked into the circulation pump, when filling for the first time, as it get caught and builds air up in the plumbing lines, causing a bit of a spa traffic jam—water and air won’t flow through the impeller of the circulation pump, as it needs water. And here’s the catch: if you leave it unattended, your pump and heater might start feeling the heat themselves, risking overheating. So a Code on Your top side controller will usually read… Low Flow or Heater Dry Message.

But fear not! You can be a spa superhero and decrease the chances of an air lock drama. by simply doing this:  Try removing the filter out of the canister… closest to the top side controller, Then put Your water hose into the lower “center plumbing hole” inside the canister,  letting the hose work its magic down the opening inside the filter canister, by placing the hose in the lower center 1 1/2″ wide pipe @ let the hose go down @ 3″ down that center filter pipe. THEN, turn on the water on through the filling hose and fill @ 12″ high of water in the bottom of Your swim spa. Now fill the swim spa up to the proper height. After it is full of water, turn on Your breaker and see if evertyhing is working fine. If an air lock still decides to play peek-a-boo, here’s a neat trick: cycle between low- and high-speed on your topside controls for several times.  If that doesn’t do the trick, it’s time to take a peek behind the scenes, That means you have to open the spa cabinet where the spa pack is and bleed the air out of your circulation pump and heater tube. (We suggest you call us before you do anything next. We have a tech on hand to answer all your questions and help you!)

A spa tech:  Open the access ABS cabinet outside  panel where the area of the circulation pump resides, and this is close to your spa pack. Spot those two large, white or black nuts attached to the circulation pump that is the pump that pushes water through the heater tube underneath your spa pack. Get yourself some big channel locks, loosen either nut on the circulation pump some, so it starts leeking water out of those nuts,  @ a gallon of water bleeds out of those nuts while the pump. Then after bleeding, see if the circulation pump pushes some water out inside your swim spa decide to put on a water show. Water coming out during this process? Perfectly normal. Once your jets are back in action, tighten up that nut, snug it up, don’t crank it as it’s a plastic nut.  When all is up and running, Put the panel back on, when all is up and running and voilà! Remember to take caution and not get near the electrical plugs or connections. Spa Tech usually will use a big towel around the bottom of the circulation pump to catch the water that bleeds out of it.

Now, it’s essential to note that air locks aren’t defects—they’re just the quirks of a freshly filled spa. with air locked into a circulation pump. If you decide to call in a technician for some air lock TLC, keep in mind it’s not part of the warranty’s labor coverage, and any fees will be on you, the spa hero. Call us about this before You fill your Swim Spa for the first time. We can send some simple videos that will make it easy for you!

      Happy spa-ing! 🌟💦
